1. Clean and Sterilize: Before first use and regularly thereafter, thoroughly clean and sterilize the bottle and nipple. This can be done by boiling them in water, using a sterilizer, or washing in a dishwasher if they are dishwasher-safe.
2. Prepare the Formula or Breast Milk: If you’re using formula, follow the instructions on the packaging to mix it correctly. For breast milk, if it’s stored, warm it to body temperature by placing the bottle in a bowl of warm water. Never microwave breast milk or formula as it can create hotspots.
3. Test the Temperature: Before feeding, test the milk’s temperature by shaking a few drops onto the inside of your wrist. It should feel warm, not hot.
4. Hold Your Baby and the Bottle Correctly: Hold your baby in a semi-upright position while supporting the head. Tilt the bottle so that the nipple is full of milk. This prevents your baby from swallowing air, which can cause gas.
