Cold Water, Air Conditioners & Sore Throat Of Summer.

Although sore throat, generally, associated with winter and low temperatures, it also occurs in summer, depriving us of valuable moments of vacation and relaxation.

The main factors that contribute to the appearance of sore throat in summer are cold drinks or water, the use of air conditioners, ice cream, viruses, abrupt temperature changes  and exposure to air pollutants, which is more intense in the summer.

Common symptoms are pain when swallowing, hoarseness of voice and a feeling of dryness, while according to research, sore throat can last from 3 to 7 days. Do not use antibiotics unnecessarily!

Follow these tips that can prevent sore throats and help your body to handle it.

Prevention and treatment:

·         Drink plenty of fluids (water, and beverages): Fluids help to liquefy and eliminate secretions from the throat and nose by hydrating the body.

·         Avoid cold water and drinks. Prefer not to consume it  frozen.

·         Prefer fresh juices and foods rich in vitamin C to have a better defense against viruses.

·         Make sure you wash your hands often and thoroughly. The virus can survive for a few hours on an infected surface, such as a door handle or telephone, so by touching them, we carry the virus very easily.

·         Rest as much as you can. Give the body the opportunity to recover and accept any treatment.

However, it is purposeful  to see a doctor if:

·         The sore throat does not go away and lasts longer than a week.

·         The sore throat subsides and reappears after a while.

·         Ingestion is difficult.

·         Sore throat is accompanied by a high fever.

·         You have a painful sore throat, accompanied by night sweats and irritated glands.

·         You have prolonged hoarseness (over 3 weeks) or recurrent hoarseness.

Your doctor can give you the right treatment to get rid of a sore throat and enjoy your summer vacation.
